Gogglebox

Media Gogglebox On first glance googlebox is a harmless reality television show intended to make you laugh however, scratch the surface and Gogglebox is an interesting insight into our society as a whole. Highlighting the cross sections within our society despite your age , ethnicity and gender. Which are not evident within the media's representation of sections of society which suggest because of your age ,ethnicity or gender you should act in certain way. This theory is expelled by Gogglebox because no matter their contrasting features all the observant watch the same programmes and react in similar fashion consequently defying the age old stereo types exercised by the media's representation which have influenced people's opinions of different types of people. The audience don't probably receive the show like that as it is a light hearted reality television. Due to the vast types of people on gogglebox there is someone for everyone to relate to which embeds within one of the four features of the reception theory and cleverly widens their audience subsequently boosting their views .In comparison to a television show produced by CBBC which is aimed at small children and basically excludes anyone of any other age. The message portrayed by Gogglebox reiterates much of the reception theory as it is a surveillance presenting the cross sections in society which are not apparently non existent with today's society and it expellees stereo types presented in the media day after day. Although I am surprised their is no disclaimer because the production value is suggested to be genuine but the people on occasion over to great extent and that the suggestion their is one camera in the television although their are close ups and other cinematographic devices deployed. Also their houses are almost show houses and their opinions are very conservative and may be outlandish when the camera is off.

Toderov

The equilibrium is a calm stage where any opposing forces are in balance. This is followed by a disruption to this harmony.
grown ups
the death of the coach brings all of them
Together the reminsance of their childhood and finally the basketball match against the team they played when they were children.

christmas consumerism and role in the media

After watching several christmas adverts i have come to the conclusion that the companies who have constructed them (boots ,john Lewis and Sainsbury) have intentionally used devices to play on the emotions of their viewers. This strongly suggests the media plays an integral role in Christmas consumerism. For example the John Lewis advert uses conventions that make the viewer feel empathy ; the convention of friendship between the boy and the penguin secondly loneliness when the music changes and images of another penguin suggest monty is lonely,  finally Love when the penguin meets the other penguin a sense of sympathy is portrayed. This advert also exploits the reception theory with these conventions
Because most people have had a loving relationship with a pet. Most people have felt lonely at some stage.  Most people have experience  the feeling of getting that dream present at Christmas.

development

incident Gary the ghost was a young boy aged twelve when he was killed in a horrific car accident on the streets of 1994 London on his way to a birthday party. On the rare occasion that he had been invited to a party which consisting of the majority of his class instead of sitting at home reading Facebook statuses about the party last night.Exploding with excitement as he had this date engraved his brain , had bought brand new expensive clothes to impress his potential friends and that girl he likes (Melissa).Unfortunately Gary was relying on his step dad Adam a raging alcoholic who is abusive to his mum ; Gary detests him but had managed to keep a stiff upper lip and ask Adam for a lift and he reluctantly obliges sadly Adam had been drinking that night as he does every Friday night after several missed calls he arrives back at the house an hour late but Gary wasn't going to let this minor set back ruin his big night .Sadly the mass consumption of Alcohol had a detrimental impact upon Adam's driving which caused a Hollywood style car crash leaving Adam a bit shaken up but leaving Gary dead. 20 years later a spooky violent storm set over the London sky and in strange event Gary was reborn. However the world had moved on ,London had moved on and so had the people from the party. Gary finds a list he made prior to party of everyone's name subsequently he assumes the people are his friends but they are in their thirties some married some have children what interest would they have in a random twelve year old. Not even his own mother recognises him unfortunately her diagnosis of dementia had coincided with the timing of his death. Without a friendly face In a once familiar city Gary has to overcome his unfortunate situation if he wants to relish his second chance at life. Born again Gary still appears as an eleven year old boy from the 90's with his walkman on full blast and a telephone the size of a forearm compared to the new iPods or iPhones people have today. With only his list for company Gary starts to search for the people on the list who are know 32 and have moved on , some married , some mothers and fathers with children the same age as Gary. Gary sites a newspaper on the floor still confused is even more puzzled by the date Gary who had problems with his reading searched through the paper furiously and suddenly stops just a few pages in to recognise a familiar face;Melissa who had gone onto to become a get away driver in a bank robbery which failed and she was due to serve her time at the local prison. Grayson perry documentary

This documentary looked into the lives of two people within the realm of the public eye and two people that had made drastic changes to their lives. I felt the the subliminal messages made the documentary interesting ; it showed amongst our society their is a dominant ideology as the mp went to prison and after six months of being out of prison he has a managerial role at a big oil company and a column in a popular newspaper whereas normal convicts who aren't white middle class men struggle to find any employment.
Another message portrayed by the documentary was that people become famous for nothing ; this message was construed through the observation of Ryland who has obtained wealth and fame for no reason at all.
Grayson Perry also followed the lives of two people who had made remarkable changes to their lives ; first a mother of three who was previously an alcoholic but converted to Islam and gave up the drink to become a better person and secondly a women who had a sex change to become a man and now gives lectures to teenagers about his transformation

Testament of youth

Testament of youth is a film that conveys a portrayal of the role of women in world war one showing the hardship they endured away from battle. The weather is used to show different emotions for example when she is excepted in to Oxford it is a bright sunny day with little noise however when she arrives in France there is persistent rain at a deafening volume showing the ongoing trauma that war is and the high volume represents the intensity of the war. Also the director conveys his ideologies surrounding war through Vera. war is unnecessary, brutual and barbaric this is shown when Vera treats a German solider on his deathbed and he cries showing the Germans are people like us with emotions not the a monstrous race we must destroy, this perception is also illustrated during a heated debate weather we should retaliate against Germany and Vera believe that this ludicrous way of solving problems (war) is pointless because it ends in loved ones being lost for everyone.

Evaluation of my contribution to Him.

Evaluation

For our magazine Him. I was responsible for a review for England's recent fixture against San Marino at Wembley. My article changed a lot from my first attempt ,not the content but the general look of my article as my review mirrored an essay instead of a glamorous piece of art it was a well written page of boring writing. The addition of photos, columns concluded in a presentable article to match our quality magazine.

My thoughts on Love does grow on trees.

Love does grow on trees is well constructed short film that portrays  the media's outlook upon a boys teenage years and curiosities, whether they are accurate or distant from the truth is irrelevant. An  underlying theme was coming of age is Which is cleverly construed by the development of the tree. During the first appearance of the tree we hear fantasy music and the boy is mesmerised by the mystery and magic of the of paper flying round the tree. When he realises that maybe he should put the porn back where he found it the discovery that it isn't magic and a man is behind it represents the maturity of the boy and the reality of life, the film is reminiscent of the wizard of Oz.So to conclude although I didn't enjoy the film I feel that this is a cleverly constructed film. I also feel the irony of the title portrays the boys initial view of love

my thoughts on telling lies

telling lies is a short film that portrays the common use of lies and the deterioration lies can cause. The use of colours illustrate when lies are used and their detrimental impact upon the conversations. the man featuring in all the telephone calls at the start has an arrogant tone about his achievements last night but as the lies progress it his voice starts breaking up showing the discomfort of him.The short film also shows that every one lies as the people on the phone vary in age and gender the common denominator is the lies and shows the large presents of lies within society.

60 second review

My sixty second challenge is difficult to analyse because unfortunately you can't hear anything .It also lacks creativity and imagination as it is just me talking consequently it was quite boring. However it would have been informative if you could hear. So in conclusion, my 60 second challenge was a failure and a minute you will never get back!!!

film review

Film review - The Rise The Rise consists of drugs , drama, friendship, love, violence and is action packed for a jaw dropping unforgettable 108 minutes. Out for revenge, recent parolee Harvey Miller and his three best friends plan to rob the local drug lord of Leeds responsible for Harvey's stint behind bars. Fresh from Prison Harvey without a penny to his name plans to change his life with a vengeance hoping to rekindle his relationship with his long term partner Vanessa and leave England in search of peace. The film is cleverly constructed as it starts with a reverse chronology as the policeman who caught him is interrogating him after the robbery. This tactic draws the viewers attention like a moth to a flame ; the viewers are desperately wanting to find out the story behind Harvey which unfolds thought the duration of the film. What i like about the film is the contrasting and ever changing sub genres from having a laugh in a night club to planning their robbery. That quick tempo and the chameleon like nature of this film means that each and every viewer can feel empathy for a particular theme. Subsequently this film was put forward for 4 different awards and was heavily praised following it's release. Michael Hodsdon

Ralph film reviw

Ralph review Michael Hodsdon 17/09/14 Ralph is a romantic film which conveys multiple themes and is exaggerated by the ever developing plot in its fourteen minute duration .Fresh off the euro tunnel in search for girl he desires (Clair) Ralph goes to call Clair; unfortunately he has a number missing. The sound suddenly rises as Ralph finds himself in strife and the amount of French being spoken shows how alienated he is in unknown and followed by a series of close ups and the lighting dropping strongly suggest the theme of loneliness. In contrast, as Ralph's fortune starts to change as he meets a waitress who feels sympathy for him and offers to take him into Marseille which coincides with change in lighting from the dark dingy doldrums of the train station to the bright glorious sunshine because a new theme of love or friendship was introduced. The lighting is also key in the final scene as Ralph's girl of his dreams appears and the to Ralph's disappointment she is accompanied by a boy she had met; Seeing this unfold the waitress kisses Ralph goodbye and disappears whilst the French sun goes down.
